Dartmouth College. Take a campus tour or just explore the campus by yourself. We think it's a gorgeous campus, but we're biased.
Appalachian Trail. Running 2,100 miles from Maine to Georgia, the Appalachian trail was the first long trail in the United States. The trail runs through downtown Hanover and provides a refreshing hike with nice scenery. We recommend the Velvet Rocks hike. The webpage describes a 5.2 mile, 3 hour hike, but if you start at the gas station and follow the trail marked on the map (see the web page), it's a nice 2.5 mile hike.
Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site. Discover the beautiful home, studios, and gardens of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, a 19th century relief sculptor who created many Civil War monuments.
Billings Farm. Take a tour of Billings Farm and Museum in beautiful Woodstock, Vermont. The farm has a herd of prize-winning Jersey cows; the museum is devoted to rural life in Vermont. They had a great quilting exhibition the last time we went.
Ruggles Mine. Do your own mining at Ruggles Mine. It's the finest establishment of its kind.
Leaf Peeping. Fall is the most beautiful time to visit the Upper Valley. Take a drive and explore the surrounding countryside and drink in the fall foliage. September 10 is a few weeks before peak season, but it should still provide some great scenery.
